Shimano's dual pivot brakes are widely regarded as offering one of the most powerful stopping forces. This is helped to a large degree by their specially formulated brake block material. Carbon fibre rims require a different compound to achieve the best braking force - so Shimano has designed a block specifically for use with carbon fibre rims.
